My Background

Karla inspires others through her companies Positivity Place, Purely Plants and Peaceful Path Yoga. Her passion has led her to Humble-Rhoads as a yoga instructor and personal plant-based nutrition coordinator.

Karla received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in May of 2018. Yoga has sparked a deeper connection within her leading to her journey of self-discovery. By using yoga to unwind and go within, Karla is grateful to be in tune with her authentic self.

In addition, after reclaiming her health by adopting a plant-based diet in 2011, Karla’s passion is now helping to educate others in a whole food plant-based lifestyle. She wants everyone to realize the health benefits of this lifestyle. She currently holds a certificate from the E-Cornell, T.Colin Campbell program and is certified in plant based nutrition.

My Story

In 2008 I was diagnosed with some health issues. I was living in a nearly 400-pound body and now a type 2 diabetic, with high cholesterol, psoriasis, sleep apnea, plantar fasciitis, and anxiety.

I had always been interested in yoga. I bought a VHS tape (remember those?) on yoga and to this day, it is still in the plastic. I then bought a DVD on yoga and …. yes, it is still in the plastic too. But the best news is I found yoga in person, July of 2011. I went to a Yoga 101 workshop and after being introduced to it, simply fell in love. I shed tears of gratitude the Universe led me to the experience. However, I was still in a large body and did not feel comfortable joining a regular class. I decided I really wanted yoga in my life, so I signed up for private sessions with an amazing teacher I found at a yoga studio in Urbana. I was forever changed.

The next year, 2012, my mom’s condition was declining from Alzheimer’s. I assessed my life, I had 3 close relatives that had died with Alzheimer’s and now my mom. What were my chances of getting it? I started researching “how to avoid Alzheimer’s for the next several months. I read medical and scientific studies, watched documentaries, read reputable articles, and followed many doctors talks on YouTube.

This research led me to determine my best chance at preventing or even giving me a better chance of not getting it… a plant-based diet. Avoiding all animal products. The catalyst for me was a documentary “Forks Over Knives.” As a Christmas present to myself, I gave all my food away and bought all new food to begin my new health journey on December 25, 2012.

Over the next few months I successfully reversed my T2 diabetes as well as all my other health conditions. Weight loss is a side effect of a whole food plant based diet and has resulted in a total 236 lbs. lost over the next few years. I have no need for any medications any longer.

Yoga: I strive to create a safe, welcoming space in my private yoga sessions and group classes where students will learn more about being in tune with themselves to inspire them on their own path. Yoga is for every size and type of body.

Plant based consultation: I will share my experience and furnish resources for you to start research to determine if a plant-based lifestyle is for you. I have said many times, “it’s like magic.” I am still amazed, daily, by my health results.
